Look Who's Coming To Dinner!

This old lady is one of the wild critters that I feed on my three porches. I call her Connie. Apparently feeling slighted that there's been no food left out for the past few nights due to social obligations, she invited herself into the house to protest.

I was at the computer and kept hearing glasses clinking. Thinking that it was Baby licking the dab of cream cheese I gave her on a spoon because she's such a garbage disposal and begs for anything I'm having. So when I hear other rooting around noises, I get up to see what's going on because Baby can get into things, you know.

So I round the corner to the kitchen and I found Connie helping herself with Baby sitting there watching. She had gone through a pile of things headed for Goodwill sitting in the corner by the utility room. She wasn't happy when I shooed her with a bag towards the back door but took her own sweet time. Then she waited by the back door for me to deliver her bowl.

She found her way around to the water side porch, walked in through the door I left cracked open so the cats could get outside for some air and mosied into the kitchen through the length of the house. I took the bowl out to let her finish it and put down some fresh water with her waiting right there for the food.

I've told Connie if she'll call her order in, I'll have it ready for her next time.

What a sweet little 'possum!

Ain't she a beauty! She's far from tiny, though. She's what they'd call une femme de certain age with a Rubenesque frame. I keep threatening to make her into a coat but she just laughs at me.

Connie is so cute. I have some 'possums that live on my property. I leave little bowls out for them and a bucket of water. I love their little fingers and how they wash up after they eat.

One thought she’d take up residence in my garage. It took me several days to realize that the odd smell wasn’t from my kitties. I always kept a bowl of kibble and fresh water out there for the cats, so she was happy as pie. And it was so strange, because I was coming and going in the car. Apparently it didn’t bother her a bit.

When I discovered her and attempted to encourage her to leave, she gave me the alligator mouth pose and growled. At that point I got my broom. She kept running back in. I finally grabbed her by her tail and dragged her (not recommended for fear of bites). She finally stormed off quite insulted with me.

I’ve got a slew of photos of my possums also.

Vikki,
Oh, brave one! The Samurai possum tail grip move is one up from Standing Crane! You have much larger ovaries than I!

I will encourage them to do what I wish by talking to them. It usually works, but Connie definitely showed me the 'gator mouth' when I tried to herd her towards the back door.

I used to have a possum named Michael in my younger days when I lived in Atlanta. He would climb up my leg and sleep hanging off of a belt loop on my jeans. I had an owl called Heathcliff that lived on the curtain rod in the living room at the same time. This proved to be a sure-fire method to rid myself of the Jehovah's Witnesses.

I have a picture of one that was trying to get out of the driveway with her entourage as my live in honey Jay Hunter was driving in.

She told Jay that a witch was living in that house with familiars! She doesn't know how close she was ;}

I love your response, Dina. You are so funny. Possums are just so darn cute.
I had one last night that went trooping across my courtyard to find the treat I leave out for her. As I looked at her I was wondering, 'what the heck' is on her. She had two precious little babies holding on to her back! That was the first time I'd seen that. They're just so amazing.

Vikki,

They are very good moms! You were so blessed to see yours as a 'baby stroller'!

I give mine maple syrup in the colder months. Gives them some cals to keep their BTUs up for heat!
